To serve Parramatta’s rapidly growing population, the City of Parramatta is developing a new $88.6 million aquatic and leisure centre in the heart of Parramatta Park. This state-of-the-art facility will provide a vibrant community hub with world-class swimming and recreation amenities for residents of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Designed by the acclaimed team of Andrew Burges Architects, Grimshaw Architects and McGregor Coxall Landscape Architects, the centre’s striking circular form takes inspiration from the area’s agricultural and river swimming heritage. The carefully integrated design sensitively complements the surrounding parklands while providing an outstanding multi-purpose aquatic complex.
Key features will include a 50m outdoor heated pool with 10 lanes and shade structures, an 8-lane 25m indoor heated pool, dedicated learn-to-swim and splash play areas, and comprehensive dry amenities. The centre will also offer a fitness centre with gym, group fitness rooms, saunas/steam rooms, cafe, and 186 parking spaces.
With accessibility as a core priority, the inclusive centre will provide universal changerooms, lifts, ramps and zero-depth entry areas. The various indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to foster community gathering, fitness, recreation and overall wellbeing.
Funded through a partnership with the NSW Government’s Restart NSW fund, this $88.6 million investment will provide Parramatta with an iconic new leisure destination for generations to come. The centre is scheduled to open to the public in 2023 following its construction by Australian builder Lipman.
