This major project will transform Alfred Road Reserve in Werribee into a vibrant, multi-use community sporting hub as outlined in the council’s adopted master plan. With an array of diverse active and passive recreation opportunities, the revitalized 20-hectare reserve will provide an exciting new destination for healthy lifestyles and community connections.
Key features to be implemented include a main cricket oval with multi-use fields for sports like cricket, Australian rules football and soccer. New netball courts, cricket practice nets, a 1.5km circuit walking/running loop, outdoor fitness zones, play spaces and landscaped environment areas will encourage outdoor exercise for all ages.
The development will also deliver important amenities like a pavilion with changerooms and community rooms, car parking, and potentially an indoor cricket training facility (subject to funding). Priority has been placed on sustainable design, accessibility, and partnering with local sporting clubs and organizations to activate the space.
When complete, Alfred Road Reserve will be a model example of converting underutilized open space into a world-class recreation precinct that promotes community health, engagement and pride. Its diverse array of amenities will enable multi-generational use by local families, sports clubs, schools and visitors alike – providing an active, social heart for Werribee.
The implementation fulfills the council’s vision for creating a premier, accessible sporting venue to meet the recreational needs of Werribee’s growing population for decades to come. Careful planning and deployment of leading design principles will ensure Alfred Road Reserve becomes an iconic asset for the entire community.
